Artist Tips

There are professional artists like Todd Nauck and Christopher Hart on YouTube. They post videos where they do drawings. They often give tips about drawing. Todd Nauck answers questions submitted by fans, and they ask questions having to do with things like his drawing process. It's inspiring to watch those artists draw in those videos. They get me in the mood to do some drawing. I recommend subscribing to YouTube channels of artists like them, and checking out their other sites and pages like their Facebook pages. You can learn a lot from those artists.

Spirograph Drawing

Image
"Spirograph Drawing" Here's my latest Spirograph drawing. I think it's the best one I've done so far. I especially like the red pattern in the center. Spirograph is a fun thing to use. I colored one or two pictures in the Spirograph coloring book that came in the set. I like Spirograph! I'll keep practicing with my Spirograph set, and maybe I'll have more Spirograph drawings to blog on here.

11th Anniversary Of "Kelly" Drawing

Image
"Kelly" It's been eleven years since I drew this picture. Last year was its tenth anniversary. I think this is one of my best drawings. I blogged it  before . This is a drawing of the actress known as Kelly Hu.

Todd Nauck Draws BB8

Todd Nauck has a YouTube channel, here . I've got him on my deviantWATCH on deviantART. In his previous journal post he posted a video of him drawing BB8 from Star Wars: the Force Awakens . I saw earlier that he's posted a journal with part two of the BB8 drawing in another YouTube video. I think Todd Nauck is a great artist, and I recommend checking out his YouTube channel.

Wyland

There's an artist known as Wyland. He has a show on PBS stations titled Wyland's Art Studio . My Dad has been watching it for awhile now and I watch it with him. Today Wyland painted a tropical scene. Watching his show today got me in the mood to possibly do some sort of drawing later in the day, or evening or night. He's done murals on the sides of large buildings. He's a cool guy. He's got a site here .

Nearing 700 Posts

I'm doing a bonus post today to mention that I'm getting closer to 700 posts. I think it's impressive that I'm coming up on that many posts on my art blog. I'm not going to get into a long post with this, but I just thought it was worth posting about. It's cool.

Batman Artists

I've been into comic books for over a couple decades now. There are some artists in particular whose art I find especially interesting. Back in the early '90s there were a couple artists who especially stood out to me in the Batman titles: Jim Aparo and Norm Breyfogle. They did some of the best Batman art ever I think. I can still remember certain art from the comics without having the comics right in front of me. There were some memorable images. I also like Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez. He did a lot of classic DC Comics art. I remember when the 1989 Batman movie was in theaters. There was Batmania. There was all kinds of Batman merchandise. My parents got me Batman toys and some of them had Garcia-Lopez's art on the packaging. More recently one of my favorites is Scott McDaniel. He had a run on the Batman comics in I believe the early 2000s. His art works really well for Batman. His visuals were really something to see. I think he started in the Batman title not long after

Art Ideas

I'm thinking about ideas for artworks. One thing I'm still thinking about doing is posting Spirograph artworks. I'm also thinking of possibly redrawing old artworks to see if I can improve on them. I haven't had much in mind for drawing lately, but now that I'm thinking about it I'm getting ideas. So, I might get to work on some of them soon.

Two-Year Anniversary of "Ginger" Artwork (Updated)

Image
"Ginger" Today is the two-year anniversary of my completion of my "Ginger" artwork. It's an artwork of mine and my family's Yorkie puppy named Ginger. This is her as she looked not long after we got her. I did this artwork on a paper like grocery bags at least used to be made of, if not still. I drew Ginger on the paper in pencil and then colored it with oil pastels. I'm really proud of this artwork. Ginger is another member of the family and we all love her. So, I think she deserves an artwork of herself. UPDATE: Here is the first blog entry I posted about the artwork, back in 2014.

Art Skills

I'm studying Christopher Hart's book titled Human Anatomy Made Amazingly Easy. I've come a long way in my art skills, but I think there might still be some room to fine tune my skills. Christopher Hart authors a lot of great how-to drawing books. I think that nowadays his books might be the first ones I think of when I want to work on my skills as an artist.

Art And Technology

I was wondering about something recently. There's been talk about the creation of e-books and whether they'll replace print books. I wonder, could the same happen to art? Might art go entirely digital at some point in the future? I kind of doubt it, but you never know. One reason I doubt it is because I think that art on a view screen wouldn't have the value that art in a frame would. Right now, some people do digital art, but then they print it out and put it in a frame or in a comic book, or whatever. I think digital art done that way might have value, but I doubt that keeping it on a screen would. As far as just making art on a computer, I do it myself sometimes, and I think it's cool. However, my favorite art is the kind that you use actual pencils, brushes, paint, paper, canvas, etc. with. I doubt that art will go completely digital, as not being tangible. I like digital, but I prefer it tangible. But, we'll just have to see what the future holds.

Spirograph Tools

Image
Lately I've been blogging about Spirograph. I got the Original Spirograph for Christmas. I blogged a picture (pictured above) of it in a previous post . In this post I thought I'd blog a picture of what the inside of it looks like, to show what kind of tools you get in the Original Spirograph. That picture is below:   The main tools are the biggest rings and the markers. You also get a stick of something like putty that you use to stick the big rings to the paper. The smaller, clear plastic things are what you put in the middle of the big rings. There's a booklet that explains how to use these tools, and it's included in the set. You also get a coloring book and colored pencils. I practiced some more with my Spirograph set last night. I think I probably did much better last night with my Spirograph set. It wasn't perfect, but I actually got a pretty cool pattern done. I'll keep practicing and eventually I'll have a satisfactory Spirograph

Links Update

I updated the links on my blog earlier. I now have the site for the Original Spirograph in my links. I thought I'd add it since I got my Spirograph for Christmas. I'm thinking about practicing some more with my Spirograph soon. As I mentioned in the previous post , I'd like to do a Spirograph drawing to post on here at some point. I hope everyone's having a great new year so far. Happy 2016!

Spirograph

I got a Spirograph set for Christmas. I practiced with it, doing some different patterns. There are various tools in the Spirograph set to use. Spirograph is cool. It's been around for a long time. I'm thinking of blogging some Spirograph art once I've done some that I think are really good for posting. Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, 2016!

It's a new year! I think I will try to blog on here more in this year than I did the last. I have some ideas about what I'm going to do in the new year, art wise. For one thing, I would like to try to draw everyday this year. I would also like to sharpen my skills. I basically hope to be more active in my art this year. I hope everyone had a great New Year's Eve, and that they have a great 2016. Happy New Year!
